The rapidly evolving field of Pharmacogenetics aims at identifying the genetic factors implicated in the inter-individual variation of drug response. These factors could enable patient sub-classification based on their treatment needs thus expediting drug development and promoting personalized, safer and more effective treatments. This book presents Pharmacogenetic examples from a broad spectrum of different drugs, for different diseases, which are representative of different stages of evaluation or application. It has been designed so as to serve both the unfamiliar reader through explanations of basic Pharmacogenetic concepts, the clinician with presentation of the latest developments and international guidelines, and the research scientist with examples of Pharmacogenetic applications, discussions on the limitations and an outlook on the new scientific trends in this field.

This practical work on pharmacogenetics seeks to increase the awareness of primary care physicians ordering diagnostic laboratory tests about the possibilities in pharmacogenetics, to alleviate their fears of approaching this new realm, and to uncover its potential for improving pharmacotherapy.

Enzyme Inhibition and Bioapplications is a concise book on applied methods of enzymes used in drug testing. The present volume will serve the purpose of applied drug evaluation methods in research projects, as well as relatively experienced enzyme scientists who might wish to develop their experiments further. Chapters are arranged in the order of basic concepts of enzyme inhibition and physiological basis of cytochromes followed by new concepts of applied drug therapy; reliability analysis; and new enzyme applications from mechanistic point of view.

Human cancers frequently arise from exposure to chemicals, although radiation, oxidation, and genetic factors play critical roles as well. DNA damage by these agents in a cell is an important first step in the process of carcinogenesis. DNA repair processes have evolved to repair these damages. However, the replication of damaged DNA may occur frequently prior to repair, resulting in gene mutations and the generation of altered proteins. Mutations in an oncogene, a tumor-suppressor gene, or a gene that controls the cell cycle give rise to a clonal cell population with an advantage in proliferation. The complex process of carcinogenesis includes many such events, but has been generally considered to be comprised of the three main stages known as initiation, promotion, and progression, which ultimately give rise to the induction of human cancer. The articles published in this book entitled "Chemically-Induced DNA Damage, Mutagenesis, and Cancer" provide an overview on the topic of the "consequence of DNA damage" in the context of human cancer with their challenges and highlights.

In the post-genomic era, one of the key challenges for drug discovery is making optimal use of the comprehensive genomic data available after the elucidation of the human genome and others in order to identify effective new medicines. Addressing this challenge, chemogenomics aims to identify systematically all ligands and modulators for all the gene products expressed and allows the accelerated exploration of their biological function. The subject brings together diverse disciplines including chemistry, genetics, chemo- and bioinformatics, structural biology, and biological screening in phenot
